Tiger Blue wallpaper

Tiger Blue wallpaper

This fabric and wallpaper came about because I was suddenly told that The English Home magazine was going to do a house feature in the summer of 2018. I have 3 large curved windows in my kitchen and I did have some lovely Shumacher fabric curtains. I knew this was a good opportunity and wanted to make sure as many of my fabrics featured in the article, This meant these curtains had to go but I had to replace them with something as good as Shumacher, this is a very hard act to follow. I had to quickly design a fabric in time and make the 3 sets of large curtains! I knew I had to make it large scale and quite dramatic, I ended up sketching like mad and looking at an oriental theme but adding in palm trees. I created a half drop repeat which I think flowed really nicely but the design was missing something, I had an oriental man fishing but then had the idea of adding a tiger. I found a photo and draw the tiger and created layers for the colours and lines. I didn’t really think about the colours I was using because I hadn’t got to the colour stage and I was really just focussing on the composition. It all came together and I was so pleased with the overall look, I then looked at the colour of the Tiger thinking I was going to make it an orange/brown colour. This was not going to work and I thought I would leave it in the original colours I designed it in. This is why I called it Tiger Blue and I could not believe how popular this design has become.

I had designed the fabric and then thought to myself I should see what this looks like as a wallpaper, a test arrived back from the printers and it turned out so much better than I thought. I used it to wallpaper parts of my kitchen and a little downstairs loo to match the big curtains I made in the fabric. Since then Tiger Blue wallpaper has been shipped across to the US and Australia in large quantities and written about in quite a few international magazines.

I was also thrilled to have my kitchen curtains and walls of Tiger Blue featured on the front cover of English Home magazine July 2019 issue.
