Healey Monkey Amynta

Healey Monkey Amynta

Healey Monkey design started firstly as wallpaper. It took me three weeks to draw this design from photographs I took photographs of the original wallpaper. Amynta Warde-Aldam asked me to look at the Chinese paper in the old night nursery in her home Healey Hall. She was moving out and it was becoming accommodation for the nearby Healey Barn wedding venue. She loved this paper and wanted to know if I could replicate it any way. I took photos one morning and then slightly forgot about it, Amynta rang and asked how I was getting on and I suddenly remembered to start looking at it again. I originally thought it would only take me a couple of hours to create something but after three weeks I eventually finished. I worked in coloured layers which is what the original paper would have been made up of different coloured screens. I then guessed the original colours from the photos and created something which was very similar. I then started to play around with the colours and came up with some amazing combinations. Amynta was moving into a house nearby and wanted to use this wallpaper in the hall and her new home. She had her set colours and we both played around with the colours to come up with what we have today. We created a dark blue background version which her husband Jamie has in his bathroom. It was easy to name these papers so the light version was called Amynta and the dark one Jamie. The wallpaper came first and then we printed off the fabric which worked just as well. It is now all over Healey Hall and Amynta new home.
