Chandolin Flower blue

Chandolin Flower blue

Chandolin is the highest village in the Swiss Alps, it can be found in the Val d’annivers valley about 2 hours from Geneva. We used to have a little chalet in the same valley and visited Chandolin many times to ski and a real treat was to go sledging down the massive luge run coming down the mountain into the village. I used to get off at the steep bits because I was always nervous of going too fast!

This fabric design has been inspired by a Swiss paper cut pictures, I visited a tiny little Swiss paper cut museum and was amazed at how colourful the paper cut pictures were. I always thought they were black and white so was quite surprised to see that was not the case at all. They were so intricate and all made using a tiny pair of scissors by hand. Some of them were very old dating back to the 1800s and these were the most colourful of all. I love the uneven organic feel of this fabric design, I never wanted it to be too precise and it has created a pattern within a pattern. You see the main shapes of the paper cuts from a distance and then are surprised when you look closer and see the intercut details inside.
